Royal Quarter

Whilst working for St George I planned and designed this development of some 400 flats. I designed this scheme around three landscaped courtyards over a parking grid which covered virtually the whole site.    I remember some planning committee members were amazed at how many habitable rooms per hectare we achieved.   But in these central urban sites what counts is quality and amenity - and benefits such as the huge amount of affordable housing and social housing.  The top flats are magnificent.  We used Paul Brookes Architects to refine and CAD up the planning drawings, and I am grateful to Sam Collard’s idea of the bright painted rendered over-archway block.  My angled roof tops were about the only cost extravagance, everything else is quite minimalist.
